Land Rescue - May 25th 2010

STAR Flight was called in Austin to the scene of a 19 year old male who had jumped from a cliff into what turned out to be shallow water. A STAR Flight rescuer was inserted on the river bed alongside the cliff using the cable hoist. Ground EMS on scene had assessed the young man and found him to have back pain, and had immobilized him on a long spine board. The victim was secured into a Baughman bag and both victim and rescuer were then extracted from the river bed again using the hoist. The STAR Flight helicopter flew the victim over the cliffs to a field nearby and landed. The victim was then loaded into the helicopter and transported to Brackenridge hospital.
